Observing Remembrance Day

Today is Remembrance Day. It is the one holiday I observe. I spend it re-reading bits of Testament of Youth, by Vera Brittain, and focusing on the gratitude I have for the sacrifice of others.
Since the U.S. is currently involved in war in Iraq and Afghanistan it's even more important that we each take time to assess our views about government policy so that we can come focused to the political debate.
Brittain's work reminds us to not "shrink from [our] share of the Universal Sorrow"—to think of some conscious response.
