Need Pigeons? Can’t Get to the Minnesota State Fair…?

August 30, 2009

Let's say you live in Antarctica and you can't get to the Minnesota
State Fair. (OK, maybe you live in San Francisco, or Philadelphia,
whatever.) Well that means you're going to miss out on seeing the
pigeons at the Fair. These are "fancy" pigeons raised to compete in a
variety of categories. (And outside the Poultry Barn there will be some
lovely City Pigeons too!)

Personally, I love all pigeons. Jana Bouc
picked this up reading my blog and sent me a link to the fun site of an
artist who writes about her life with pigeons. Petra Voegtle is an
artist who posts delightful photos and entries about her interactions
with pigeons. (Please remember to respect her copyright—don't paint from her photos without her permission.)

If you need some eye candy today, can't get to the Minnesota State Fair, and you love pigeons, check out Pigeon Tales by Petra Voegtle!

    Hi Roz,
thank you so much for your sweet plug about my pigeon diary. I see that you have enjoyed it and I am very happy about it. I hope so very much that more and more people would change their mind about pigeons and realize how amazing these birds are, so intelligent and true individual personalities.

Btw – your watercolour sketches are wonderful! And not only that…

Petra, for those of use who can’t have adventures with pigeons, and only get to see them when we are out in the city walking or at the State Fair (!) it’s good to have a place to go and see someone interacting with pigeons!

I think Jana Bouc may be your soul sister. She even wears braids!

Karen, I haven’t ever seen a picture of Jana with braids, but it can only show what good sense and style she has!
