Fabric Give Away

February 6, 2010

A fabric give away.

FabricUphols9148

After some more sorting in the studio and my regular fabric storage (as opposed to bookcloth storage) I came up with this pile of fabrics I would love to pass on to someone who sews. I originally purchased these fabrics when I was on a journal bag craze.

For a variety of reasons I never got around to using the above fabrics. It's time they had a new and productive live somewhere else. They are thicker, upholstery style fabrics. I don't know what the yardage is on these pieces, but there is more than sufficient to make a decent size bag with most pieces, or mix and match them in some creative way.

So if you sew and are crazy to make a journal bag for yourself, and live somewhere in the U.S., post a comment and let me know that you would like to be included in a drawing for this batch of fabrics. I'll draw a winner on Sunday night at 6  p.m. (CST) and post the winner on Monday.

While one could back these fabrics with paper and use them for bookcloth I am not recommending that as they are pretty hefty. If you like to make soft covered journals with hefty fabrics these might interest you.

Hi – I’d love to be included on your drawing. Been following your great blog for quite a while. Your animal sketches done just with pigment liners are masterful. The line variety and shading are powerful.

    Hi Roz,
Count me in for the fabrics giveaway. I of course love the ORANGE fabric, but they are all lovely. What I don’t use, I can offer to my creative mom and sister!

Loretta, great to hear from you! Not too cold here—in fact we had a warming trend with temps in the 25 to 30 degree range. Driving is difficult during some rush hours because of slushy freezing conditions, but it makes a wonderful change from more frigid temps!

Jill, I’ve got you entered in the draw, but just wanted to let you know there is no sign up for International Fake Journal Month.

All you have to do is produce a fake journal during April!

Of course I hope you’ll subscribe or at least stop by the Official International Fake Journal Blog
    http://officialinternationalfakejournalblog.blogspot.com/

There you’ll find posts from me as we get closer, and throughout April and a bit of May, about fake journals and journaling in general.

Last year we had folks send in their work from fake journals. I hope this happens this year as well (there are instructions on that blog) and there will of course be a contest over there, so another reason to check it out every so often!

Good luck with your fake journal!

Roz, I would be delighted if you would enter me in your drawing as well!

I discovered your blog about a month ago and devoured it within two days! What I enjoy the most is your paper and art supply reviews (and your fantastic tag system).

I just purchased a tin of Lyra Aquacolor Crayons; they are more “buttery” than the Stabilo Woodies and Caran d’Ache water soluble crayons. I’m very excited to test them in my journal of Amalfi paper.

    Thank you!

Please enter me in your drawing. I love to sew and have been working on a pattern for making the “perfect” journal/sketch bag. Your fabrics would definately be put to good use. Thank you for all the great inspiration that you provide on your blog.

Amber—you read the whole blog in two days! Oh my gosh. I don’t think I could do that and I wrote all this stuff!

I’m glad you’re enjoying your Lyra Aquacolors—the ones I’ve had were always rather hard compared to the other watersolubles of this type. I also found their pigment strength was weaker. I just gave a bunch to a friend to experiment with. I think that’s the great thing about having a variety of supplies is that each type might not suit an individual. My worry is always about the shrinking number of options in this category!!! But then if we keep talking about them and using them maybe art materials companies will respond by making something really fantastic!

I’m sure you’ll have fun with your Amalfi paper journal. I made a journal out of their cards years ago, it was quite fun to work in.

Miriam, whether you win the giveaway or not I hope you do make a journal bag with an image from your journals on it. It’s great fun, but it is also a great conversation starter!

Okay; I’ll bite. I’d love to see what I could do with those fabrics. I love to sew so much I own a sewing forum, and bags are one of my all-time favorite projects. I’m always looking for heavy fabrics and nice hardware, and spend many happy hours drafting up patterns for different sizes and shapes and styles of bags for projects of all kinds. 🙂
