More Changes for CR

It has been a long weekend of change. Friday we got a call from the care facility that CR would need to move into the memory ward. We had expected this day would come, but it still seems like it happened very fast.  His short term memory disappeared a couple years ago. Both Dick and […]

Richard Doesn’t Have a Clue

Yesterday was Father’s Day and like many fortunate people who have parents who are not only still living but living nearby we spent the afternoon with Dick’s dad CR. We brought treats and sat and talked. Later we struggled to get him into clean, fresh clothing. CR has lost the ability to stand for even […]

A Little Hiatus While Some Technical Issues and Deadlines Are Addressed

I have some great posts in the draft stage, including a review of the journal today’s image was created in, and of course the Stonehenge Aqua paper review. However, I’m stretched very thinly right now as I balance teaching the Drawing Practice class with resolving some long standing technical issues about my website. Because of […]

If You Can’t Go Tight Go Loose

SaveSave SaveSave

Graphite and watercolor sketch of a young man on Sktchy. (His hair really was that color.) 8 x 10 inch sheet of cold press Fluid 100 watercolor paper. I've been working for the past several months doing more pencil and watercolor sketches and less pen and ink. I'm really liking the Fluid 100 paper which is 100 percent cotton, especially the cold press for this type of work because of the texture it gives to the washes.

The One Time Dementia Is an OK Thing

So I’ve been working too much lately. Personal projects, work, teaching, and eldercare. I ran out of blog posts that were written ahead when I was ill in January, so I haven’t even had a moment to write a blog post. This weekend, after a brutal week, I organized everything so that I could go […]

More Life Drawing in the Hahnemühle Nostalgie Sketchbook

Phyllis sitting at her desk, but holding her coloring book in her lap, and coloring with her Tombow dual tipped markers. (She gives those markers a two-thumbs up for was of coloring and quick application of color.) Staedtler Pigment Liner and washes of Pentel ColorBrush Black ink. I didn’t remember to include the above image […]

CR Is My Best Life Model

Dick always goes to see his parents on Saturday. I like to go on different days during the week so that they get lots of visits. Sometimes I go with Dick because I will cut CR’s hair, or I’ll go get Phyllis (she’s on a different floor) and bring her down, so they can […]

A Little Drawing From Life in the Hahnemühle Nostalgie Sketchbook

I didn’t remember to include the image at the left of my mother-in-law Phyllis in the last post on Hahnemühle Nostalgie Sketchbooks. It’s one of the last sketches in my very small landscape journal that I was carrying around in my pack. (Now I have a small portrait one.) I was working with a Staedtler […]

Family, Memory Loss, Design, and Fall Cycling

Above: Quick sketch of Phyllis sitting, Sensei Pen and Montana Acrylic Marker on Arches Text Wove (Velin) in a 7 x 5 inch handmade book. (Look over on the left and head and tail of the book so you can see the fun decorative paper I made with gold sparkles.) It has been a long […]

Phyllis at Bingo

Above: Verso page a small decorative statuette seen earlier in the day (I don't know why there isn't a time on it—I suppose I was called in from the waiting room quickly). Recto page—Phyllis playing bingo. I arrived and she was already in the midst of the games and given a choice she wanted to […]
