Left: Pat Beaubien, with her handmade journal. It’s about 8 x 10 inches. The cover has watercolor paper painted with acrylics in an abstract fashion. There are strokes of metallic silver paint here and there as well as colors. After applying the paper to the cover she saw the fish emerge from the background and defined it with black acrylic ink lines. Click on the image to view an enlargement.
Thursday night I got together with two talented journal artists. Both women teach grade school and for the past several years they have been going up to Grand Marais, Minnesota for a bit of the summer. Pat and Nanette brought the resultant journals along to Cafe Latté to show me how their fog-filled visit this year went. I don’t know why we pick low-light areas to meet—it’s not the best for viewing journals, or taking photographs to share with you, but the cake is, well, excellent.
