Usually I work way ahead in my blog. But for some reason today’s post wasn’t written—only the image selected.
It’s serendipity, because in a weirdo circumstance I slammed my hand into an unfriendly cast-iron base of one of Dick’s shop tools, while tossing him a house key.
And typing anything new would be problematic, if of any length—if I didn’t want to spend all day.
So let’s think today about letting things go. Letting go of perfect.
Today’s image is a soft-covered Strathmore 500 series mixed media journal cover that I scribbled on with some Uni-Posca pens so I could write the volume number when the book was filled.
I don’t find the surface of this journal conducive to taking a quick, solid line, so it went messy in my haste.
And I’m glad of that. There can be a bit of beauty in something like this that is wonky. And even if there isn’t beauty, there is utility—and we can get on to the next thing. That thing that might take a little more thought, or effort, or correction and refinement.
For me the next thing is getting to my sketching, which gives me great joy. And since I’m predominantly right-handed, and it’s the left hand that is injured, I’m good to go sketch.
Today, move to let go of perfect and get some art done.
And check back later this week and beyond, because I have some other posts about TV and a portrait project, already in the can, coming up no typing required on my part.
