In Context—Sketching Through Pain

March 25, 2022

Be sure to note the date—it’s last April! I’m doing just fine today and keeping up with all my physical therapy maintenance exercises.

This is a couple sketches of Nic Sampson, an actor on “The Brokenwood Mysteries.” Click on this link to read my recent review of the series. (Hint, I’m a fan.)

I find that sketching takes me out of myself when I have pain to cope with. And I also find that even when I don’t do fantastic sketches I learn so much—proportion traps I have to avoid, the color of hair, media experimentation…etc.

I hope, however your current day is going you can take a few minutes to sketch something quickly, and again, and maybe even again. Just to keep the hand, mind, and eye all at least remembering that they do like to work together.

(Handmade journal of ThSaunders/Waterford 90 lb. hot press watercolor paper, approximately 8 x 8 inches.)
