The Journal as Workbook

January 14, 2022
Sketches of birds in an aviary. Hand bound journal made with Nideggen paper. (Toned paper)

Below is a video which explains my view of the journal, and how I use my journal in my daily practice.

Students in my “Drawing Practice: Drawing Live Subjects in Public” class asked me to share it publicly when I shut down my on-line teaching platform at the end of last year. They wanted to revisit it.

I thought it would be good to post it on my blog because it is of general interest. Whether you’ve taken a class with me or not you might find the video interesting.

The video also fits in my topic for this month—looking at journaling hiccups. I’ll have another post continuing Wednesday’s topic this coming Monday.

Get some sketching done this weekend!

Roz, thank you for posting this video. I needed to hear your words. I have special memories from that 2015 class.

I’m glad you remember the class fondly. I hope the video gives you a smile and sends you back to your journal again and again.

I guess I missed seeing this comment Carmel. I am glad you stopped by. I am glad you were able to take part in that first DP class. I enjoyed seeing your work. I hope this finds you safe and well. And sketching!
