I can’t help myself. I love to sketch hair.
Here’s a sketch from a 19th century photo.
I only exaggerated only a little, really. Volumes of hair. Sweeping ever upward.
I love it. I wonder if he also wore a hat and what the wearing of a hat might do to his hairdo?
Despite the brush pen being fairly dried out I kept fiddling away. I really enjoy drawing hair.
I start with an outline typically, or some extended gestures of hair as I move about the face, and then go back and work on different areas.
Sakura Brush Pen FB on Nideggen (a lovely toned paper with visible fiber flecks) in a book I bound.
Golly, I Enjoy your messages. 💙
Thank you Georgy! I appreciate you taking time to stop by and read. Now go sketch some hair!
You can tell that you enjoy hair and beards and you do it so well!
Sometimes I find it hard to look away – so interesting.
Pamela, that’s just about the nicest thing anyone has said to me about my sketches. Artists want people to find it hard to look away. Thanks you made my day.
Fantastic hair on both the model and the drawing! This guy reminds me of Edgar Allen Poe. I think it’s the face shape and heavy eyes, or maybe just his overall creepiness. I do love his short stories.
Sorry this guy has got a creepy vibe for you. I’ve failed to get his general vibe then. I don’t see the look of Poe there. Poe had a huge receding hairline and was pretty bald up top with long at the sides, so I don’t see it. But the clothes on this guy are 19th century so that might be nudging you that way. I’m glad you enjoyed all the hair.
I love sketching men and their hair unless they’re bald and that’s cool too Your work always inspires! Thanks for sharing it.
So glad you enjoyed this post. Thanks for stopping to check in.
