I’ve been having serious withdrawl symptoms with no new episodes of “Would I Lie To You.”
Then a couple weeks ago I saw it jumped to the front of my queue—more episodes. I’ve sped through them, unable to h help myself, and now of course want more episodes of “WILTY” all over again.
But I am very happy to have had these. I get them through BritBox.
What is “WILTY”?
It’s a celebrity “team” show. Lee Mack and David Mitchell each have two new celebrities on their teams each episode. Then members of each team try to fool the other team by telling a tale that is either true or a lie. If you get to watch an episode with Bob Morton be prepared to be amazed at the timing and creativity of his nuanced story telling skills. (Also if you watch the episode with the magic trick this season—can’t tell you more because it would be a spoiler—watch past the credits of that show to see some extra footage, i.e., don’t let it auto advance before the end of the credits.)
Rob Brydon, whom you may know from “Gavin and Stacey,” is the host.
What other show can you watch where a guest stands by quietly and 3 people claim to have his or her acquaintance based on some outlandish circumstance told by the players, and you hear things like the following? (Don’t worry I’m not going to spoil it by telling you who this man in the sketch is…)
My love for WILTY is matched only by my love for Bob Mortimore. It plays pretty much on a constant loop over here on some channels and I can’t stop rewatching it, even though I pretty much know all the answers now. And the ‘standing’ team are so very sketchable…
I rewatch them TOO! It is sometimes more fun to rewatch when you do know what to expect because you can watch and see if there are any clues that they are lying. But even when I’ve seen them before I sometimes forget which way something went. And then it is always fun to see David Mitchell go off on a rant!
