A Little Dip Pen and Watercolor

February 10, 2021
A 9 x 11 inch portrait on recycled watercolor paper (defunct) with stamping and acrylic marker on the background; dip pen and watercolor for the portrait.

At the beginning of the month I had a pen sketch of this muse from Sktchy. Here today is another sketch, from the same muse with different facial hair. I’ve used a different painting approach: dip pen and watercolor. (See the caption for additional media comments.)

This is actually a painting made on a sheet of recycled watercolor paper that was used to protect other pages. I was inserting the sheet behind my journal page, using the marker to run off the journal page and hit this page. Then reusing this protective sheet on other edges again and again.

I like to keep this protective sheets and use them for paintings. I find that the marks, when enhanced with some rubber stamping or other embellishment make great textures for paintings.

Have fun playing with your media in a variety of ways and combinations.
