In Context: Playing with Faces while Making Soup

September 1, 2020

My pen was running out of ink and then I had some left over paint—it’s fun what you get up to when you are using little bits of time between doing another task. (The soup was great! Though I only stayed up to put it away for the next day.)

This is from an 8.5 x 11 inch or so handbound book made with the OLD Gutenberg paper.

It is not the heavyweight version of this paper so it does buckle when it gets wet (see the warping paper at the top of the woman’s head).

That’s never bothered me, and doesn’t stop me from using the next page.

I’m really glad I took some of the last sheets of this paper and made it into large sketchbooks. I’ve really enjoyed working on this large expanse of paper!
