Watercolor on Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper

October 2, 2019
Fluid 100 Hot Press 140 lb. watercolor paper. Brush pen with watercolor.

This is the second fully worked watercolor painting I did after my second cataract surgery. I still didn’t have glasses. I had uncorrected vision, so it was a headache for many reasons to work this way, but it was fun because I LOVE FLUID 100 Watercolor paper.

It’s their 100 percent cotton paper and it has gelatin sizing.

Nothing in painting makes me happier than a paper that loves the paint the way this one with a gelatin sizing does.

Detail. You can see the flat brush strokes and the edge strokes. I love filberts and flats.

Also it’s just plain fun to push the paint around with filberts and flats.

And of course painting beards and interesting hair is fun too!

…Stack the fun deck in your favor so that even on difficult days you can paint.

Hi, I love your style and and your application of paint, not to mention your drawings. But this painting looks to me more like gouache or acrylic, opaque while you describe it as watercolor.

I agree Zora. Opacity to the hilt.
