Happy New Year 2019

January 1, 2019
Pen and ink wash sketch of a French Bull Dog on Fabriano Artistico Cold Press watercolor paper. I bound this creamy white paper (it also comes in a brighter white) into a large journal for sketching. Think about the papers you want to work with this year. Think about the skills you want to develop this year. Make a plan!

It’s the first day of the New Year!

I believe that everyday needs to be greeted as a first day.

I believe that you need to do something creative each day.

In the 10 plus years I’ve been writing the blog I’ve written about New Year’s Day each year. Here are links to some of what I’ve written. I discuss my rituals, I discuss setting intention, I discuss setting intentions.

At the end of 2008 I wrote about my New Year’s Day Ritual.

In 2010 I wrote about intention.

In 2011 I broke my day down for you.

At the end of 2012 I wrote about reflection and goals.

In 2012 I told you to go to the zoo! (Boy I’m bossy!)

And then showed you what I did at the zoo later in the month.

In 2014 I reminded you to use small moments…

What did I write in 2016?

What did I write in 2017?

Whether you read any of the above or not you do have to ask yourself two questions.

What am I going to do today for my creative life?

And…

Why should it be any different on January 1 than on January 19, or March 12, or July 19…? (Hint: I don’t think there should be any difference. Your creativity needs to be part of your daily life.)

The important thing, the thing that matters, is that you start talking to yourself honestly and building your creative life everyday.
