Dogs—Paws On Grand Is Coming Up

July 25, 2018
Here’s a quick sketch I made using a Sktchy Muse photo because I’m house bound right now. I was trying out a new ball point pen—a Pilot Juice 0.38 in grape. I really wanted to try this pen out in my old Gutenberg paper (i.e., not the currently available paper of that name) journal. I was in such a rush I didn’t even put my glasses on. I don’t normally use ballpoint pens for sketching so it was fun to try something different, test it on a textured paper (see the detail image to see the paper’s texture better), and frankly simply have an excuse to scribble. (The ink didn’t have any odor either—though I’ll post an update after I’m normal again—chocolate doesn’t taste right!)

This year, because of bronchitis I’m not going to be able to sketch dogs at Wet Paint for Paws On Grand. But I wanted to give you a heads up about this event because there  are going to be some great artists on hand ready to make quick portraits of your dog, cat, bat, lizard, bird, hedgehog…

The Pet Portrait Sketching at Wet Paint runs from 12-3pm on Sunday, August 5.

This event has always been well attended in the past so I recommend you get there early.

The portraits are free, but there is a suggested donation—that goes to People and Pets Together. This organization offers assistance to families during economic hardships by providing pet food to food shelves, hosting subsidized vaccination clinics, working closely with vets to offset costs, and running a pet food shelf and resource center. They support relationships that people have with their pets so they don’t have to surrender them in difficult economic times.

Detail of today’s sketch. I actually like this pen better on the textured paper than the smooth paper I just did test lines on!

Show up to donate to a great cause and provide the artists with fun models—nothing makes the time fly by faster than some handsome pets to sketch.

You might even want to take a turn in Wet Paint and check out all the great art supplies!

Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 5, noon to 3 p.m.!

Please note: Virginia McBride at Wet Paint says she is still looking for a couple more artists. If you love drawing animals email for more information on how you can volunteer. You will have a great time!
