Since I’m so interested in drawing beards I’m a little disappointed in myself that I didn’t keep track that “No Shave November” is going on. This is an event that seeks to raise cancer awareness and also raise money for cancer research. You can read all about it at the link.
I was going to post the four portraits I managed to sketch on World Beard Day, September 2, 2017, at the end of this month in a blog post. But it seems silly to wait.
This post contains the four portraits I was able to paint that Saturday. I hope they inspire you to grow your beard and participate in No Shave November.
Remember, when you grow a beard an artist somewhere will thank you! Why? Because beards are simply fun to sketch!
And if you want to sketch a beard don’t forget about the Sktchy App. The app actually reminded me it was No Shave November because they put up a gallery of bearded muses people might want to sketch. (There are tons more—I’ve got about 1900 muse images [people posting images to sketch from are called muses on the app] and most of them are men with beards! You’re sure to find someone with a beard to sketch. In fact, if you’re growing a beard, why don’t you go to Sktchy right now and join, it’s free, and you can post your progression portraits as you grow your beard for artists to sketch you!)
Originally on World Beard Day I was going to sketch all day and stream my sketching. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to work out the technical aspects in time. It’s just as well, I had new eye glasses to “break in.” Since then I’ve had someone over to help me with lighting. (I need enough light to see to draw but not so much that it burns out the paper in the recording.) And another friend walked me through some streaming software, while a third friend (and some of my blog readers (thank you!) helped me with an impromptu camera test. In the future I hope to stream videos of me sketching.
