In Context—Favorite Papers

October 27, 2017
Platinum Carbon Black ink from their fountain pen, with washes of watercolor (complementary colors mixed to work monochromatically. On Stonehenge.

Sometimes you can search and search and test and test, and you just keep coming back to a favorite paper. For me I love to paint on white Stonehenge paper. It isn’t a watercolor paper—the washes need a different handling than on watercolor paper. Yet there is something so fun about working on the paper—the drag, the push, the way the wash settles—that I am always reaching for it.
