Today’s post is for all the friends and fans of Dick who, like me, are wondering just when his eyebrows might make their play to take over the world.

This quick sketch from life, while Dick was sitting on the couch watching TV, was made using a pigment Pentel Brush Pen (squeezy type) on Wave Paper (which is pretty absorbent and a little draggy on the brush, but lovely nonetheless to work on) that was 16.5 x 11.75 inches.

That’s what happens when we get older. The brows grow long.
Can’t tell you how much I enjoy reading your blog and looking at your amazing drawings. The information you give about materials is so good.

Thanks Elaine for reading. Just a heads up—Dick has always had voracious eyebrows, he didn’t have to wait for aging!

I’m glad you enjoy the blog and find it helpful, it’s my goal.

I knew a man who had HUGE white eyebrows that he combed up and out…they were truly amazing. But the funniest bit is that there was a couple in town, both with silver white hair and tans. She wore her hair in a puffed up bee-hivey French Twist. Mr Eyebrows would sniff and say, “and that hair!”

P.S. You do such a fab job educating us all on a wide variety of subjects. Thank you so very, very much.

My husband will not let me cut his eyebrows!! Despite the fact that they make him look like an old coot. He remembers his grandfather’s eyebrows and likes that they look that way. So you have my sympathies.

Ah Amy, Dick has another reason. I asked him once if I could cut them (always, of course looking for something easier and simpler to sketch!). He told me “I use them. No.”

He does sweat a lot when he is outside working so I guess he has a point. I suggested he might make due with a little less, but again, “No, I use them.”

Sigh. It would probably freak me out if they were cut.

He reminds me of all the Vikings and Scottish folk with bushy eyebrows. And of course how Disney and cartoons play up that feature! (And he is of Finnish and Scottish descent so that makes sense.
