I love these 2 colors. Are you using the MONTANA MARKERS? The warmth of the red and the cooler pink are unexpected and jazzy.
There’s just one color there Ellen it’s something someone asked me about yesterday in comments and I wrote: “just old cartridges of Pilot drawing ink—it’s not lightfast. I’m just playing around with it because it was in a drawer I was clearing out, and it’s watersoluble and I’ve been playing with ink and brushes lately. High fun factor, zero archival factor.”
(I don’t expect people to catch comments.)
I’m just sketching with the pen and then using the waterbrush to dilute and shade where I want to.
Montana markers are very much opaque and they dry very quickly. So I get the type of lines you see in this post

The wide outline stuff like the pink in this image

and the wide stroke background stuff you see in this post (the light blue) http://typepad.rozwoundup.com/roz_wound_up/2013/03/more-recent-sketches-from-the-bell-museum.html
I passionately love this series. The birds are incredible and the captions are perfect!
Robin, I’m glad you enjoyed them. I’m sure at some point I’ll post some more of these. They are fun for me to do. Thanks for writing.
