An Illustrated Journey: A New Book From Danny Gregory

January 9, 2013

IllustratedJourneyCoverLeft: Cover for Danny Gregory's An Illustrated Journey.

My friend Ken Avidor just alerted me to the fact that the pre-order page is up for Danny Gregory's new journal book: An Illustrated Journey.

If you click on that link you'll get to the page and THEN if you click on the "Search inside this book" line immediatedly below the cover image on the left, you'll be able to do just that, look inside the book.

And what you'll see is Danny's introduction as well as some very cool pages from Ken Avidor (and the first page of his talented wife Roberta's section). So go check it out!

I'm very excited to be one of the included artists. During the book's creation Danny put up a private website where the contributors could see the work and artist statements. It's been very fun to see all the lovely work that is going to be in this book. Whether you take a lot of trips or stay home, if you enjoy looking into the visual journals of others you are going to love this book.

The publication date is set for February 28, 2013. (I'll have more to say when it comes out.)

Wow! How cool is this? I found your blog while researching the use of gouache. I followed a link from Artists Journal Workshop and was thrilled to see your post here. It’s so funny because I had just the other day gotten out my copy of “An Illustrated Life” to find inspiration for starting my own illustrated journal in this new year.
I had no idea I would find one of my favorite artists who contributed to that amazing book right here. I am so happy to hear that there is a new one coming out next month!
I love nature, animals and the ocean, so your sketches of the shore birds were my favorite.
So thanks so much for the inspiration! I am off to explore your site further.

Thanks for the heads-up, Roz. I love his other book about journals so this one’s a must-have.

Carol, thanks for writing. I’m so glad you found your way here. I definitely have my views (positive) on using gouache so I hope you have fun poking around my many gouache posts. Did you know I put a bunch of links about my gouache posts together in a compendium page after a recent demo? http://typepad.rozwoundup.com/roz_wound_up/gouache-compendium-notes-from-roz-wound-up-posts-to-accompany-my-gouache-demo.html

If you live in Minnesota have you been up to Duluth to the aquatic museum? There you can see and stand very close to a bunch of shore birds and then go outside and sketch gulls, gulls, gulls.

Glad you have An Illustrated Life and are looking forward to An Illustrated Journal—the latter is going to be every bit as inspiring and fun to read and look at as the first and the first was gorgeous.

Miss T, it is definitely a must have. It’s going to be very, very fun. But besides the earlier “An Illustrated LIfe” Danny has also written other books about journaling the use of “other” in your note indicates you might not know about: Everyday Matters, and Creative License. Both also excellent books, though not collections of work by several artists—which might be what you mean, but just in case, I wouldn’t want you to miss out on some other great books.
