Of Course “It’s Carl Week”

October 24, 2012

See the post for details.

Above: Faber-Castell Pitt Artist's Calligraphy Pen sketch of Carl in a 9 x 12 inch Fabriano Venezia journal with gouache.

Don't worry, I did go biking. It was glorious. Carl stayed home.

Don't know who Carl is? You can check this link for his first appearance here. Or you can click on "Carl" in the category list in the left column.

I bet Carl would love to ride on your handlebars. Perhaps I could knit him a hammock (when I find my yarn again – it’s in a box somewhere…).

Heather, I think he might just like that—and why not look even crazier than I already do. Heck people are peddling along with their little Cairn Terriers! But you focus on other things! I’m looking forward to seeing you and Becca next month. And hearing about everything. Right now I’ve finished a pesky project and I’m ditching Carl and going for a bike ride!

The way you did the washes gave him a dynamic look. Practically moving.

Thanks Molly, but I was just being messy with my morning warm up and splashing on the paint. I do like the orange and blue here in a mess.

Shame on you, I’m sure Colourful Carl would have loved a birl in the sun, if not in a hammock, then in the hat? Not as much as I’m looking forward to my lovely box of gouache that arrived Monday (delayed from Saturday as we were relaying most of the roadend so the road was closed)Great colours, will treat myself to a cheapo palette to keep it separate to the watercolours, and get a few fresh brushes out of the rather large boxfull, I got insanely cheap. Lots of Autumnal colours here, and the first of the winter pansies are in bloom, so plenty choices outside. The bottom greenhouse has a kitchen table in it; just the right height to work on. Love winter pansies, flower from now till late next summer; outside in big tubs. Thanks again for the prize looking forward to relaxing and enjoying something new.

Leslie, glad the gouache arrived and survived the trip (there was an angry postal clerk on duty the day I mailed the package!).

I hope you have a lot of fun playing with the paint.

You might not all realize that Carl is HUGE and will significantly impact my training times as dead weight!

My apologies, hadn’t realised Carl was full size; I guess it’s a tandem and teach him to pedal.Angry clerks are always fun; I find a big happy smile can drive them to madness. Mind you I always give a big happy grin to security cameras, which probably worries a few folks. Good luck weight training with a dinosaur.

Leslie, Carl isn’t FULL size. But he is huge. and not something that I would be happy toting around. I think for now I’ll continue to enjoy my cycling time alone as usual (it’s the one time during the day when I can be alone with my thoughts with no clients or family members asking for something).

I will keep in mind the big happy smile. Though this one particular clerk makes it very very difficult! This will be my piece to work on.

Perhaps some day Carl and I will come to Scotland to see the Puffins and we will stop by to see you so that you can meet him. (Carl is vastly more interesting to talk with than I am!)
