Above: Chihuahua studies in a 9 x 12 inch Fabriano Venezia journal. Pentel Pocket brush pen sketches. Color added to the sketch on the top right. It's on a loose sheet of Richeson recycled watercolor paper. The sketch on the sheet was done from life and painted later at night—I was going to throw it away, but found, as usual with gouache, I could hide all the worst bits; the ink studies were made from photos.
I'm planning a new project for October 2012 and if you are a local (Twin Cities) dog owner you might be able to help.
I'm looking for 14 dogs who won't mind spending 90 minutes with me to be sketched and painted from life. I'm also going to take some photographs for reference. I'll then be turning those sketches into paintings.
Left: Detail from the color sketch which is a Pentel Pocket Brush Pen sketch with gouache added for color. No black paint was used in this image.
If you have such a dog and are willing to commit to giving that dog a vigorous 45 minute walk before I meet with him/her (so she's calmer). Please contact me. (Meeting location will be determined based on the dog, fenced yards, and other logistics.)
I'll want to work with the dog for 90 minutes. I would also like the project to be completed in the first two weeks of October 2012, which means I would need to schedule your dog between October 1 through 14. You can reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org
In return you'll get an archival print of either the best sketch or painting that results from the session.
All dog breeds are welcome. I'm currently quite fond of Chihuahuas, Bostons, and French Bulldogs (hint, hint).
Folks who don't live in the Twin Cities, I'm sorry I don't like to work from photographs so I'm looking to work only with life models for this project. Maybe another project I'll work from photos.
Please tell your dog owning friends.
