Art-A-Whirl Is This Weekend: Two Artists I Enjoyed

Last night I went around with a friend to a few of the buildings where Art-A-Whirl is being held.

I stopped in to see my friend Marcia McEachron because I love her wire sculptures (she also makes large metal sculptures and paints).

I came home with the sculpture of bent wire that you see in today's post. It's mounted on a wooden block and was a very afordable $35.

While I was at Marcia's studio (108 in the California Building, 2205 California St. NE, Minneapolis, MN 55418) I tried to take a short video of the wall of companions to this guy—birds of every type, moose, wolves, foxes, rabbits…to show you the way the wire casts incredible patterns and designs on the wall, when the light shifts. I wasn't able to capture the effect then or this morning when I took this photo of my purchase. But I think you might want to go and see for yourself and come home with a new wire friend.

The other stand out studio for me yesterday was Lynn Speaker's. She continues to create stunning gunpowder art portraits of plants (you have to see them to understand what's happening and to see how beautiful they are). Lynn's at Studio 101 in the Grain Belt Bottling House, 79—13th Ave. NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413.

Both of these artists' studios will be open today and tomorrow for Art-A-Whirl (see the link for times etc.) Go spend some time seeing what's being made in Northeast Minneapolis, and support a local artist!
