Above: Sketches of competing chefs on Top Chef. Faber-Castell Pitt Artist's Calligraphy Pen and gouache (3 inch flat brush washes across the face, and then 3/4 inch flibert brush to fill), in the Fabriano Venezia 9 x 12 inch in-studio journal. (Text obscured for privacy.)
I've said it before today and I'll say it again before January 16, 2012 I'm sure: Practice drawing faces anyway you can for the MCBA Visual Journal Collective's Portrait Party on that day.
If you can't get out and sketch people from life (which is what we'll be doing at the party) you can at least turn on the TV and have a sketching session. Get that hand and eye and brain working together.
(Note: for the Portrait Party on January 16, 2012 we'll be making an editioned photocopier book and working with black and white only, but that doesn't mean you can't practice with color!)
Use your time wisely between now and January 16. Go to life drawing co-ops, sketch on the bus, sketch in waiting rooms, sketch while you're shopping.
