MCBA Visual Journal Collective Meeting CORRECTION: April 18, 2011—Draw a Treasured Object

April 10, 2011

See the post for full details on the topic change.

Due to additional unforseen circumstances our April meeting topic has changed yet again. I wanted to give you all a heads up so that you could plan accordingly!

Monday, April 18, 7 to 9 p.m. Draw a Treasured Object (and Get Ready for May's Sketch Out)

At this meeting we will focus on drawing skills. Each person will bring one 3-dimensional (non-flat) treasured item that is easily transportable and fun to sketch. At the meeting you will sketch your own item and the treasured items of others!

MCBA Visual Journal Collective Coordinator Roz Stendahl will lead the group in a couple warm-up drawing exercises that are especially useful if you are starting your drawing practice. She will also present a drawing exercise you can practice on your own at home to use to build your hand-eye-brain coordination.

Send your drawing questions in before Friday, April 15 (to if you would like Roz to address specific issues, e.g., one Collective member has already requested some advice on painting shadows on objects.

You'll need to bring: a 3-D treasured item to sketch, your journal and sketching media of your choice.

There will also be plenty of time for general discussion and sharing of journals so that you can get to know the other members of the Collective. Bring a couple of your past journals to pass around or talk about.

This will be a great meeting to fill some journal pages with interesting objects and learn something about the members to whom those objects matter!

It will also be a chance to practice your sketching skills in preparation for our May 7, 2011 Sketch Out at the Shepherd's Harvest Sheep and Wool Festival!
