Monday, September 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. Join artists Nanette Lee and Mary Hanson for a discussion of Travel Journals!

(See MCBA's website for a map. Plan to arrive a tad early as parking is sometimes difficult to find either in the lot or on the street. I will be there at 6:30 p.m.)

Each of the presenters at this meeting brings a unique and original approach to keeping a travel journal that will inspire you to try new approaches or to push your drawing skills on your next trip.

Mary Hanson will show some of her mixed media travel journals (which include sewn papers and fabrics) and talk about how her approach to travel journals has developed over the years.

Nanette Lee will share examples of her travel journals showing how she captures the architecture and nature around her onto the page.

Following the presentation we will do a short "café drawing" exercise to warm up for future trips. This is a great way to develop your skills and get comfortable sketching in public—which is something you'll want to do when traveling.

After the presentation and sketching join with other Collective members in sharing your own travel journals. You're sure to come away with ideas for journaling on the go!

The MCBA Visual Journal Collective is a free group open to all adult journal keepers interested in exploring the variety of ways we get our lives down on paper. The group has members of all artistic skill levels. It doesn't matter if you make your own journals or not (though we'll probably get you interested in binding!) And it makes no difference whether you are on your first journal or your 601st journal—you'll find this an energetic and welcoming group.
