What’s happening at The Atelier.
If you love representational art (and I do) then you might want to check out the work presented in The Atelier's full-time student show.
Friday, May 14, 2 to 9 p.m
Saturday, May 15, 12 to 8 p.m.
Sunday, May 16, 12 to 5 p.m.
If you're interested in studying in an art program that focuses on fine draftsmanship and has a tradition reaching back to Jaques-Louis David then The Atelier might be just the place for you. Their spring and summer class schedule has just arrived in my mailbox.
As usual they are offering their full-day workshops this summer. You can take a one- or two-week workshop with basic drawing, portrait and interior, and life drawing. I took a two-week stint with them in the 1990s, working on cast drawing in the mornings, then running home and walking the girls (who could be alone, but were spoiled by my working at home, and a little irritated that I was letting my drawing come above watching them nap!) and then running back to the school to do a couple hours of life drawing. It was my vacation for that year and one of the best vacations ever! (Though I had to work very, very hard.) If you are in the Twin Cities, or are willing to travel for your art, I really recommend this experience. It's an investment of time and money in "seeing" that will be critical for your entire working life.
Note: I'm not connected in any way, except as a past student who loves what they are doing. If you meet me on the street and ask me where to go for art classes I say "The Atelier."
