Shepherd’s Harvest Sheep & Wool Festival

May 9, 2009

050507llama Left: A Llama sketch I did at the 2005 festival. It's in a journal I made with Gutenberg paper that is 6 x 8 inches. Staedtler Pigment Liner and watercolor.

ACK! Something unavoidable has come up and I am not able to attend either day of the Shepherd's Harvest Sheep & Wool Festival in Lake Elmo, Minnesota (this is just at the eastern edge of the metro area).

I started going in 2005, when a tracking student who is a knitter told me about the event. It is the perfect situation to warm up for the State Fair because there are LIVE ANIMALS in the small county fairgrounds' barns! Sheep, Llamas, Goats. Even bunnies if you want to go into the vendor buildings where wool and yarn is sold.

It hurts even more to not be able to attend this year because this is the first time I can remember that it has been SUNNY and warmish on this weekend. Typically it's me, in 4 layers of clothing standing in an unheated barn sketching and painting and then sketching some more to wait for the rain to stop so I can run to the next barn. (I love sketching sheep and goats folks, in case you didn't notice.)

Well, even if I can't be there you can. Go have some fun. Eat some Kettle Corn for me!

Hours are 9:00 a.m–5:00 p.m. Saturday  and 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Sunday

If you would like to see more of my sketches from the 2005 event you're in luck as I have them posted in the journals section of my website. Click on the link provided and you'll see the above llama, and 3 fun sheep and some more text describing the event.
