Example of the book structure we’ll make in this class.

There are still a couple openings in my next bookmaking class: Not Your Father’s Casebound Journal.
It’s on
Saturday, November 1; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m; at Minnesota Center for Book Arts, Minneapolis, MN.

The class will meld traditional methods with new techniques and unusual
materials to make a rounded spine artist’s journal. The 8-signature, 7 x
5 3/4 inch journal will be made with archival art paper perfect for wet
or dry media. The techniques taught eliminate the need for sewing on a
frame so this book can be made again and again at home without special
equipment.

In additional departures from tradition we will create this
rounded spine book without bookcloth. Instead students will work with
tent repair tape and “naked” boards. Students will learn techniques for
painting the boards and create a custom look for their book. Read more about this class at my website listing.

Cover treatments will be as individual as the student. We’ll discuss how to customize the covers and even more importantly, we’ll talk about how you customize future books to your specific needs. Come and learn to make visual journals you’ll love to work in.
